According to the results of the epidemiological history investigation, on June 10, 2023 (2 months ago), the patient was bitten on the hand by a dog, causing a scratch on the skin. The status of the wound treatment is unknown. The patient did not receive serum or rabies vaccine.

After that, the dog bit 2 more people, 6 people came into contact with the patient and the dog was suspected of being rabid. The total number of people who came into contact with the patient and the suspected rabid dog was 8 people. On June 16, 2023, the dog was beaten to death by his family.

Investigation of patient NN’s medical history showed that on August 11, 2023, the patient had symptoms of fatigue, loss of appetite, fear of water, and drooling, and was taken to Binh Son District Medical Center by his family. with a suspected diagnosis of rabies.

The patient was then transferred to Quang Ngai Provincial General Hospital at 11:90 p.m., diagnosed with suspected rabies. At 7:00 a.m. on August 13, 2023, the patient asked to return home and was admitted to Da Nang General Hospital. He was diagnosed with suspected rabies caused by a dog bite and sent home. At 6:00 p.m. on August 13, 2023, the patient died.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Quang Ngai Provincial Center for Disease Control directed Binh Son District Medical Center to coordinate with Binh Long Commune Medical Station to carry out treatment activities. In cases of being bitten, scratched, licked by a dog suspected of having rabies or exposed to open wounds or mucous membranes exposed to the patient’s saliva, the patient is instructed to go to the rabies vaccination point for examination and preventive treatment. room promptly. At the same time, disinfection disinfects personal items and items in the patient’s home with common antibacterial chemicals.

Coordinate with local authorities and veterinary agencies to monitor and detect dogs and cats in Binh Long commune, immediately kill dogs and animals with rabies or suspected of having rabies in the outbreak area. Carry out destruction of animals infected or dead from rabies, cleaning, disinfection and disinfection of epidemic areas. All dogs and cats in Long Yen village must be locked up and not allowed to roam free.

Isolate and monitor animals suspected of being sick, infected, or suspected of being infected with rabies according to regulations. Healthy animals in the outbreak and adjacent villages must be vaccinated against rabies. Do not transport or bring dogs and cats into or out of epidemic areas.
